Why does ambient temperature guage on vw golf mark 4 flash & give what sounds like warning signal?

Been doing it for about a month and always at 4degrees. Any ideas?

it not a problem with the car it is simply a warning signal to warn there may be an icy surface. the same warning sound will go off if the windscreen washer is low or the oil levels are low it is only warning you off possible dangers.

Both my last two cars did this at 3 degress. It is a warning of cold temperatures and therefore the possibility ice on the road.
Because at 4 degrees there can be ice on the road surface.
