Do you have to have quickbooks installed on your computer to restore files off a flash drive of quickbooks?

I have been trying to to backup our quickbooks 2008 to a flash drive, when I check it on another computer, it is only symbols and wierd signs. Last year I did it with our old quickbooks program and it worked fine. What is the problem. We use a cruzer flash drive.Do you have to have quickbooks installed on your computer to restore files off a flash drive of quickbooks?
You can backup a QB file to a flash drive but if you use the QB backup option you are only backing up the company file, not the program (they are separate). You cannot restore it on another computer without the program installed on that computer.Do you have to have quickbooks installed on your computer to restore files off a flash drive of quickbooks?
Do you mean your data or your program?

You can normally use the backup feature to backup data and point it to a usb storage(i.e. f: or e: depending on your system) and you can then use the restore feature on the other system. If the versions don't match on the quick books systems you will need to export the data and import it into the other system.

If it is the program you want to backup. Drag and drop all the files on the usb drive.
